The basterkobas is a very unusual and attractive tree. It is named after Jutta Dinter, the wife of professor K. Dinter, one of the authors.

Fruiting Habits:
The red grape-like fruits are toxic.

Culture:
Plant 2-3 years old Cyphostemma (3-4 inches caudex) in the ground. For optimum growth, water and fertilize regularly after May when the leaves start growing. This species is dormant in winter, keep it totally dry at or around 50°F (10°C).
