The genus Dombeya is named after Joseph Dombey, an 18th-century French botanist, doctor, and explorer.
Blooming Habits:
Coral red 5 petaled flowers, often with conspicuous yellow pollen deposits at the edges of the petals, 3 inches wide (7.5 cm), in round clusters, 12 inches wide (30 cm), hanging at the branch tips, in late winter. The flowers are produced only by mature trees, and are somewhat obscured by the leaves.
