Origin: Western USA
Growth Habits: Medium-sized deciduous tree, fast growing to 60 feet tall (18 m) or more, 25 to 45 feet spread (7.5-13.5 m); red twigs; opposite, light green, leaves, 2 to 4 inches long (5-10 cm), with whitish underside, 3 to 5 palmate lobes with serrate margins
Flowers: Yellow or red flowers
Watering Needs: Regular to moderate water, doesn't like alkaline soils
Propagation: Seeds
Blooming Habits:
The bright red but occasionally yellow flowers, come usually before leaves, in the spring.
Fruiting Habits:
Clusters of reddish to brownish fruit, 0.5 to 0.8 inch long (12-20 mm), with 2 slighly divergent wings (45 degrees angle).
