Growth Habits: Deciduous shrub, 5 to 8 feet tall (1.5-2.4 m), 6 to 12 feet in spread (1.8-3.6 m); opposite, dark green. glossy, oval leaves, 2 to 5 inches long (5-12 cm), with grayish green underside; the leaves are fragrant when crushed

Propagation: Cuttings, seeds

The seeds are poisonous.

Blooming Habits:
Reddish brown to dark brown flowers, 2 inches in diameter (5 cm), with a strong spicy strawberry scent.

Fruiting Habits:
Fragrant, urn-shaped capsules

Culture:
The Carolina allspice is more compact in the sun. It can be trimmed after finishing blooming. It produces suckers that should be removed.
