Growth Habits: Solitary, up to 32 inches tall (80 cm), 20 inches in diameter (50 cm), younger plants have 4 or 5 spines. As they age the number of spines decreases to 0 to 2.

The needle-like gold spines of the Ferocactus schwarzii are different than most Ferocactus. The species is named after its initial collector, Friedrich (Fritz) Schwarz.

Blooming Habits:
Yellow flowers, 4 inches in diameter (10 cm), the plant blooms relatively early, when it reaches 5 inches in diameter (12 cm)
