Home Page | There are about 100 species of Drosanthemum in southern and western South Africa. They are close to Delosperma and Trichodiadema. The species encountered in cultivation are covered with glistening turbercles that make the plant look like it is covered of dew, or like tiny ice crystals.
Drosanthemum floribundum, with 1/2 inch wide pink flowers, and Drosanthemum speciosum with 2 inches wide red-orange flowers are the most common in cultivation. They bloom in early summer.
