Kaffir Lime Trees

Hi!
I did a search for Kaffir Limes and your group was at the top! I live in San Diego and everything grows well here. I purchased a Kaffir lime 2 months ago because I love Thai (and all kinds of) cooking and like to have the ingredients handy (in this case, the leaves). How large does the fruit get, and what color is it when it's ripe? How do you know when it's ripe? Is it edible? The tree is so ornamental - I have my guy in a 5 gallon pot, feels like it's in a lot of gravel. He seems very happy. Thanks for any info!
