Growth Habits: Deciduous shrub, up to 12 feet tall (3.6 m); dark green, alternate leaves, 1 inch to 4 inches long (2.5 cm-10 cm), with lighter underside

Watering Needs: Moderate water to regular water


The name alternifolia refers to the alternate leaves, unique in the genus.

Cultural Practices:
Prune after it finished blooming, since the wood produced later will bear the next year flowers.

Blooming Habits:
Purple, lightly scented flowers, up to 0.8 inch long (2 cm), in inflorescences 8 inches long (20 cm), in late spring to early summer.
